Happy National Children's Book Day 2017!

Unbeknownst to most people, the National Children's Book Day is celebrated every 3rd week of July. It is done so in commemoration of the publication of Dr Jose Rizal's first Filipino Children's Book 'Si Pagong at si Matsing'

I would still remember how my students loved this story and how I comically delivered using matsing's monkey voice and pagong's very sloooow deep voice. Incidentally, this story also used to be one of my favorite books growing up! My kuya and I would usually play pretend that he is matsing and I am pagong.  I even memorized the sequence of how matsing, as a trickster, would have to have his bigger share of pie so to speak.

To kick off my celebration of National Children's Book Week, I am honored to have been invited by SM Supermall as one of their storytellers for the National Children's Book Read Aloud day! I was there to represent both The Storytelling Project and The Librarians on the Road. It was such joy to be back telling stories to kids of Palar Elementary School. There were 50 kids and 50 parents and hundreds of passersby listening to the stories I told 'Two friends. One world.' And 'Bumabara-bara-bara.'
