Yayoi Kusama : Life is the Heart of a Rainbow

'Beginning with paintings from the 1950s, the exhibition traces the development of her key motifs and exploration of colour, form and space. Along the way, it highlights her forays into sculpture, collage, performance and video, before culminating in a series of spectacular installations and large-scale paintings that transform our galleries and public spaces.' - National Gallery Singapore

The moment we stepped inside one of the exhibitions of Yayoi Kusama inside the National Gallery of Singapore, all we could say was 'WOW!'. We all wished that we could've stayed for more then 5 minutes inside this hall:

Homogenizing and Transforming World
Where each touch turns the balls into different colors
The exhibit is located around the gallery inside 7 different big halls!!! It features Kusama's works from as early as the 1950's: her fascination for dots, mirrors and colors, and even the launch of her newest works, which entail more sculpture. There usually is a very long queue before you could get inside one of the halls (USS feels!) as people really tend to flock the exhibits. Add to that the time limit that you could only spend inside each hall (one has max. 30 secs!), so you better take as many beautiful photos as you could.

The Obliteration Room
These differently colored dots are actually stickers that exhibition-goers
can stick anywhere they want inside the hall!
My favorite part of the exhibit got to be the Infinity Mirrors! After the many walks inside the gallery, we have a record of 10,000++ steps (talk about burning calories!), and hundreds of pictures from the different exhibits we've been to, this piece takes the cake and brings home the bacon! Save the best for last they say and it was really worth it. I wish I could stay in this chamber a little longer.

Gleaming Lights of the Souls

Here's to us

Who remain as each other's light in the darkness,
Who despite the distance, keep each other close to our hearts,
That every talk we have, seems like no time has passed and we just want it to last.
You know I love you ❤️
To infinity and beyond!

You may visit Yayoi Kusama's Life is the Heart of a Rainbow at the National Gallery Singapore until the 3rd of September 2017. The admission costs 25 SGD for the exhibit + gallery access. You may also visit the Children's Biennale, which coincides with the Kusama feature.
